Implant placement is the surgical phase of tooth replacement: a small titanium or ceramic post is positioned in the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over several months to form a stable foundation. This practice focuses specifically on the placement itself, working closely with each patient's restorative or general dentist, who designs and attaches the final crown, bridge, or denture.

Who Is a Candidate for Implant Placement?
Implant placement may be recommended for patients who:
- Have lost one or more teeth to decay, trauma, or periodontal disease
- Want a fixed alternative to a removable partial or full denture
- Have a failing tooth that cannot be saved and will require extraction
- Have adequate bone volume, or are candidates for grafting to build up the site
Preparing the Site for Placement
Every implant case begins with an evaluation of the surrounding bone and gum tissue. Some patients are ready for placement right away. Others benefit from preparatory treatment first, such as:

The Placement Process

- Referral back to the patient's restorative dentist to complete the crown, bridge, or denture
Working With Your Restorative Dentist
Care is provided by Dr. Eric A. Dale, DDS, who places the implant and manages the surgical and healing phases of treatment. Because this practice does not perform implant restorations, patients are referred back to their general or restorative dentist once the implant has healed so the final tooth can be designed and attached. Dividing care this way allows each stage of treatment to be handled by the provider best suited to it.

Is implant placement painful?
Local anesthesia is used during the procedure, and most patients report only mild discomfort during the healing period, similar to what follows a tooth extraction.
How long does it take for an implant to heal?
Healing time varies by patient and by location in the mouth, but osseointegration, the fusion of implant and bone, commonly takes several months before the implant is ready for restoration.
Will I need a bone graft before my implant can be placed?
Not always. Bone volume is evaluated during the consultation, and a graft is only recommended when additional support is needed for long-term implant stability.
Do you place the crown on top of the implant?
No. This practice focuses on surgical placement only. Once healing is complete, the patient returns to their restorative dentist, who designs and attaches the crown, bridge, or denture.
