One of the main goals for treating periodontal disease is to have spaces (pocket depths) around the teeth that are small enough so that on a daily basis you can clean the destructive bacteria from around the teeth. Bacteria destroys the bone around your tooth creating a hole that you cannot keep clean. In select cases it is possible to fill the hole using a bone graft.
With the advances in technology it is possible to use safe, processed bone graft material from a lab. It is not necessary to get the bone from elsewhere in your mouth or body. This is an easy way to regain lost bone without additional trauma.
